Program Overview: 

Legal Foundations in Banking presents the underlying legal structure for conducting the business of banking.  The 10 week course covers key legal requirements affecting banks and bankers, as well as core language that must be understood to be effective.  It provides the critical legal knowledge that every banker should know.

Audience: New managers in banking or those entering into professional customer contact areas of a bank, transacting business as this is a foundation course in the legal structure and basis for commercial banking. This is also a “core” course for anyone entering the banking profession.

Topics: 

At the end of the course, participants should:

  • Understand the basic foundation for transaction processing and deposits
  • Identify the key areas that encompass the legal risks banks face
  • Provide a foundation for determining safety and soundness requirements to provide protection to the bank
  • Establish a framework for sound practices and understanding of financial transactions and their requirements

Cancellation Policy: 

There is a full refund for any cancellations or transfers made before the start of the class and upon the return of the textbook to ABA. Refunds will be made (less $100 cancellation fee) if received within 10 business days from the start of course and the return of the textbook if applicable. Please include your packing slip or order number with the return of your textbook. You may request a transfer only once with a fee of $100. There are no refunds for cancellations received more than 10 business days after the start of the class.
